Holiday Cottage Before Winter: Stove, Flue and Wall

Vitcas glass fibre stove rope for compatible seals

After the last autumn visits, it is worth recording the heating status in the cottage before the appliance remains unused for a longer time. The necessary actions result from the stove, the flue, and the actual building conditions. Winter preparation does not consist of randomly sealing all available openings.

Compare the condition of the device when cold

Check the instructions regarding breaks in use as well as necessary cleaning and inspection. Examine the doors, the accessible interior, and the connections. Note any moisture, missing material or movement, instead of leaving an unrecognized trace until the first winter firing.

Vitcas stove rope is selected according to the intended seal and compression. If the material needs replacement, record the size and groove path. Prepare the repair according to the doors and adhesive, keeping the steps before further use.

The flue and wall are separate areas

Flue Cement has described applications with compatible ceramic chimney elements. Selection requires documentation of the flue. Do not use the cement as a universal solution for moisture or for connecting any metal pipe.

HT Fireboard has specific protective and finishing tasks. Inspect the cover together with the substrate and the surroundings of the stove. New materials stored nearby can change the conditions of the site without any change to the sheet itself.

Prepare the record for the next visit

Maintain access and required equipment clearances according to the instructions. If any dampness is noticed, determine its source and necessary actions instead of covering the surface with a new coating. Future startup should take into account the actual condition after the pause.

Record the work performed, products, and areas left for inspection. Store photographs alongside the stove documentation. During the next visit, it will be easier to compare the equipment with its last known condition, without relying on memory of a single surface seen several months earlier.
